Keraton at the Plaza Jakarta is a luxurious 5 star hotel that is located in one of the most prestigious addresses in Indonesia. It is directly connected to Plaza Indonesia shopping, which a luxury shopping mall. Shopping fanatics will definitely love this hotel as it is also a stone’s throw away from many other shopping malls such as Grand Indonesia Shopping, Jalan Surabaya Art Market and Sarinah Thamrin. Popular tourist attractions such as the Presidential National Palace, the National Museum and the Shadow Puppets Museum are also located within a short distance from the hotel.
Transportation is also hassle free, as the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the Gambir Train Station. Furthermore, the hotel staff are extremely helpful and well trained and they will definitely have no qualms about assisting you in booking a taxi on your request. The hotel is also situated rather close to family playgrounds like Dunia Fantasy and Ancol Dreamland, thus making it a good choice for family with young adventurous children to stay there. However, I noted that avid golfers might not be able to appreciate the location of the hotel as the golf clubs are not exactly very close by and accessible by public transport.
“Keraton” translates to “palace” in Javanese and I must say that the quality, architecture and decor of the room did make me feel like royalty during my stay. For my trip, I booked their most basic room but being a SPG gold member, I was entitled to a free upgrade, usually to a club room. However, this time, all the rooms were booked and to my surprise, I was upgraded to the executive junior suite! The executive junior suites are located at the corners of the hotel on each floor, and I suppose this guarantees a reasonable amount of space for each suite.
The room was beautifully designed, with modern decor. The use of full parquet flooring added a nice homely touch to the room, yet giving the room a futuristic, modern feel. The room was cavernous, with a comfortable, welcoming living area, complete with a plush sofa and coffee table. This space and gorgeous living area makes it a pleasure for any guest to invite friends over for a small party.
Another feature of the room that I took a liking to upon entering the room was the floor to ceiling windows surrounding the bed and work area. I am a big fan of such a feature as I feel that it takes luxury to a higher level. The floor to ceiling windows offered a spectacular view of the surrounding city area and this gives the room a further wow factor. Those who enjoy unwinding in the room will also find it a pleasure to sit by the windows and enjoy a cup of tea while admiring the city view of Jakarta. Needless to say, this feature made the hotel stand out from amongst other 5 star luxury hotels as few have such an impressive design that exudes luxury at such a level.
Without any question, the bed was large and very nicely made. The sheets were well pressed as expected and the bed was very comfortable. Also, the pillows on the bed were of varying softness so you can actually choose which one you prefer. This was a very nice touch added to the room. However, the mattress was a little too soft and some might not be able to adapt well to it.
The room also had a very nice and spacious work station, with a desk large enough to sit two people for a discussion. Even though this hotel is not specially targeted at businessmen, I am sure that many office workers would find this addition useful for conducting small meet ups in the room or to have a discussion over a cup of coffee. The sockets on the work desk were also international ones, so businessmen who do not have adapters can still get their work done without the hassle of having to find and purchase a socket. Also, the Bose speakers added a touch of luxury as it provides quality music for any type of event held in the room.
However, the work desk was rather lacking in terms of equipment as no stationery set was provided. Also, there were no ports for HDMI connectivity so businessmen will not be able to give presentations in the room. Nonetheless, the work desk makes up for its lack of equipment with its refreshing and spacious design.
